christina anderson

Administrative Assistant

I have been blessed to grow up in the Renton Church of the Nazarene. I met and married to my best friend, TJ in 1994, instantly became a mom to my stepson, Derick and then we were blessed a couple of years later when we had our son Patrick. Our family was complete when we unofficially adopted a young lady, Melissa who really needed a family. TJ and I have been married for over 20 wonderful years, it doesn’t feel like it has been that long.

I love filling needs when I can and one of the ways I have done that is working in the Nino’s Café, it has been such a great learning experience, I love meeting new people, and making coffee is a lot of fun. I have been blessed with this job and I love the daily challenges and chances to do more for God.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I was given a gift and desire to help others out with the daily tasks that many find tedious. As I update our file system it was been a lot of fun discovering some of the history of the Renton Church of the Nazarene that was unknown to me even though I grew up in this church. I certainly have a drive to please others which helps me take pride in the job I do in the office but this is also a struggle as I learn to say no in the times when it is necessary. I am thanking God every day for giving me this opportunity and a job that I love.

What is your favorite bible passage?

Colossians 1:10-12 (NRSV) So that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God. May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from his glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience, while joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light.

Outside of church, what take up most of your time?

Spending time with my family which includes watching movies, going out for coffee, and running errands. I really enjoy sewing, and card making and it’s even more fun with my friends. It is a joy of mine to let my creativity out in all kinds of crafts and projects so don’t be surprised to see pictures of me in costumes or working on some unusual craft. I really love to write and need to make more time for it. Chores are a chore and unfortunately a part of everyday life. If camping wasn’t so much work, I would do it more often.

What’s on your iPod?

I am a girl of the 80’s and 90’s so my music includes a lot of Michal Jackson, Run DMC, Madonna, and many more hits from that era. Thanks to my family I am not limited to just that. My collection includes blues, classical, classic rock, and even country. In recent years I have added a lot of Christian rock including Mandisa (Overcomer), Tobby Mac, Francesca Battistelli (one of my favorites), Red, David Crowder, Switchfoot, and more.

Describe your perfect day.

My perfect day would start with sleeping in and then having breakfast with my hubby, kids, mom and dad. I cherish every day I have with my family so a relaxed day reminiscing and sharing stories and hopes and prayers for the future and most likely being very silly would be ideal. Family is my favorite thing to enjoy so no matter what we do, it is better if we do it together.

mario garcia, sr.

Pastor to the Spanish Congregation

Mario Sr. was born on August 15, 1961 in San Luis Rio Colorado Sonora. He graduated from Kofa High School in Yuma, Az in 1989. Afterward he attended Arizona Western College (AWC) for four and half years building his career as a project manager. He came to the Seattle area in May of 1999 and worked with different construction companies as a project manager.

Mario Sr.'s story is a powerful one. At the age of 14 years old he was an alcoholic. At the age of 15 he was in prison in Mexico for being accused of a murder and was later involved in serious and dangerous drug use. Mario Sr. continued down this destructive path until God saved him at the age of 30 when he was dying. This is one of Mario Sr.'s biggest reasons for loving God. He says, "I remember saying to the Lord 'If you exists, if you are real, change me and I will serve you.'" Guess what? He was listening! Mario Sr. first started serving God in evangelistic work in rural areas of Mexico. He then worked with prison fellowship for four years, and gave bible studies in Yuma, Az. Mario Sr. even preached on a community acces channel for two years. Later, God called Mario Sr. to become a full-time pastor. Mario Sr. has been working at Renton Church of the Nazarene since January 15, 2005.

What do you enjoy most about your ministry?

What I enjoy the most is to work with people and teach the word of God

What is your favorite bible verse or passage?

My favorite verse is Romans 10:13 "For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

Outside of church, what takes up most of your time?

I'm self-sustained working in construction. Any time I have left I dedicate to my family and ministry.

Describe your perfect day.

Every day is a perfect day because the Lord is with me.

Carrie Goldsmith

Youth Pastor

Carrie started at RCN in July 2016. This is her first time serving as a youth pastor. Prior to this, Carrie worked as a Mobilization Coordinator for Extreme Nazarene Missions, and she is very interested in overseas mission work.

Before her call to ministry, Carrie worked as a teacher for 11 years—in Idaho, Indonesia, and California. She received her BA in Elementary Education with a minor in music from Northwest Nazarene University in 2001. She received her Master’s in Education from CSU Bakersfield in 2012. She is currently working on her Master’s in Pastoral Ministry through NNU.

What do you enjoy most about your ministry?

I love hanging out with teenagers, and helping them grow spiritually. I look forward to building relationships, helping them draw closer to God, and challenging them to be disciples of Jesus. I love getting to be a part of making a difference in someone’s life.

What is your favorite bible verse or passage?

I Thessalonians 5:16-18, "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I love that God’s will for us is laid out in such simple, though challenging, terms. No matter what circumstance I am in, I am to be joyful. I can do that by finding something to be thankful for in that situation. And the only way to be thankful is by praying continually. As I pray, I am filled with joy, and thankfulness will flow out of me. I love the cyclical nature of these verses and the challenge within them.

Outside of church, what takes up most of your time?

Hanging out with friends/family: playing games, hiking, traveling, adventuring. I also love to read (and make videos of me reading aloud). I also love to sing, play the piano, act, crochet, and watch movies.

What’s on your iPod?

My favorites are Relient K, DC Talk (still love them!), For King and Country, Owl City, Superchick, Andy Grammer, Adele, and various movie and musical soundtracks. I also love to listen to my favorite worship songs on Amazon—Hillsong, Kari Jobe, Bethel, etc.

Describe your perfect day.

I wake up without an alarm clock and go to my patio to drink tea and read my Bible. Afterwards I meet up with friends for an epic hike, and then we eat dinner at an amazing restaurant. Then (because this perfect day has extra hours and endless energy) we go to someone’s house, where we roast marshmallows around a bonfire and play games until late into the night. Then we finish up the night by watching a movie and eating buttery popcorn. #perfectday

Claudia has been married for 37 wonderful years to Tim Miller. Together they have two daughters: Mandy and Amy. What do you enjoy most about your ministry?

Some of my favorite and most memorable times are those times when I have the opportunity to spend with the kids just chatting it up about what is going on in their lives. I am also blessed with the mission trips we regularly go on to Mexico. Watching our young people blossom as they minister to the orphans from the Casa Hogar, Vida Joven (Orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico) is such a blessing.

What is your favorite bible verse?

A scripture I try to live by is Psalm 86:11, "Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you." I pray my every day is lived so that this verse is seen in all I do.

Outside of church, what take up most of your time?

When I'm not hanging out with the kids I love to bake. If cookies, cakes, pies, scones or bread are pleasing to your palette then my house is where you want to be. I also love walking in the wilderness taking in God's creation.

What’s on your iPod?

Music is by far one of my favorite ways to spend time with God. I love David Crowder, Chris Tomlin, Rend Collective, For King and Country, Lecrae, Tenth Avenue North, Family Force Five and of course Coming Soon (our own youth band). Oh, and I shouldn't leave out Brad Paisley and Lady Antebellum.

Describe your perfect day.

My perfect day would begin with waking up to fresh falling snow, my family would be at home, the fireplace lit and Christmas lights on, while Christmas music is playing in the background. After the baking begins, the youth would show up, snowmen and forts would be built and we would have a massive snowball fight. The day would end with chili on the stove, corn bread in the oven, and the movie Miracle on 34th street. Goodnight sleep tight.

tim miller

Worship Leader

I started my music ministry at the ripe old age of 3, when I sang my first solo in sunday school. Over the years I’ve sang in many duets, trios, quartets, and choirs but my favorite group to sing in was The Northwesterners ensemble at Northwest Nazarene University. I also earned a BA in Accounting from NNU and later earned a CPA certification.

One of my favorite songs is “Nobody Knows The Trouble I’ve Seen” which my USMC drill instructor had me sing for a recruit that was having a bad day. While stationed in California I enjoyed directing a church youth choir. I've continued on in music ministry ever since.

My ministry here at RCN began in 1981 as director of our youth choir and eventual director of the adult choir, song leader, youth sponsor, young adult Sunday School teacher, treasurer, and board member. I’ve been the part time Worship Pastor since 1995.

What do you enjoy most about your ministry?

I enjoy teaching old songs to young people and new songs to older people along with the creativity and mentoring that comes with the ministry. Music is such a powerful tool that reaches deep down to help us Praise and Worship our Lord and Savior.

What is your favorite bible verse/passage?

I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the whole book of 1 Timothy which I memorized as a teen to earn my way to church camp. 1 Timothy 4:12 “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”

Outside of church, what takes up most of your time?

Outside of church I keep busy listening to music, walking my daughter’s Siberian Husky, uploading my friend’s Southern Gospel videos to YouTube and working as an Accountant at The Boeing Company.

What’s on your iPod?

My iPod has a lot of Worship Music on it, along with some Contemporary Christian Music from the 70’s and 80’s, a little Smooth Jazz and a smidgen of Classical Music.

Describe your perfect day.

My perfect day would start with a morning walk on the beach with my wife and two daughters. Then I’d enjoy a 3 mile afternoon run under a hot summer sun and end the day singing songs around a camp fire with friends.
